1. JOB PURPOSE AND SCOPE

The Electrician Supervisor/Team Leader will provide day-to-day technical supervision of Street Wireman electricians and wiremen, ensuring that all assigned installations are completed safely, efficiently, on time and to approved electrical standards.

The role will coordinate field teams from receipt of work packages through material collection, installation, testing, quality control, customer handover and job closure, while reporting technical issues to the Technical Lead.

The position will also mentor field technicians, enforce safety and workmanship standards, and provide practical feedback to improve Street Wireman’s rural wiring model.

2. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Team Supervision: Allocate daily assignments, coordinate field teams and monitor technician performance and productivity.
  • Work Package Execution: Review assigned work packages and ensure installations are executed according to approved designs, BoQs, specifications and customer requirements.
  • Site Assessment: Verify household conditions and technical requirements before installation and escalate significant variations for approval.
  • Installation Supervision: Supervise wiring, lighting, sockets, distribution systems, protection and other electrical installations in accordance with approved standards.
  • Quality Control: Inspect completed work, identify defects and ensure corrective action before installations are approved for handover.
  • Testing & Commissioning: Ensure appropriate electrical testing is conducted and that installations meet required safety and performance standards before commissioning.
  • Electrical Safety: Enforce safe working practices, appropriate PPE, safe isolation procedures and compliance with Street Wireman’s safety requirements.
  • Materials Management: Confirm that required materials are available, properly used and accounted for, and report shortages, damage or wastage.
  • Tools & Equipment: Ensure technicians properly use, maintain and safeguard electrical tools, testing equipment and other field assets.
  • Technical Standards: Ensure all technicians comply with Street Wireman’s wiring standards, installation procedures, SOPs and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Utility Coordination: Support technical coordination with electricity utilities on meter installations, connections, inspections and other field-related requirements.
  • Customer Engagement: Explain technical aspects of installations to customers and address routine technical concerns professionally.
  • Field Problem-Solving: Diagnose technical challenges encountered during installation and escalate complex or unresolved issues to the Technical Lead.
  • Technician Mentorship: Coach wiremen and electricians on installation techniques, safety, quality standards and proper use of tools and materials.
  • Incident Reporting: Immediately report electrical accidents, safety incidents, near misses, major defects and other significant field risks.
  • App & Documentation: Ensure job status, installation records, testing results, material usage and other required information are accurately captured in the Wireman App.
  • Job Closure: Confirm that completed work has passed technical inspection, customer handover requirements and documentation before recommending closure.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify recurring technical problems, inefficiencies and field lessons and recommend practical improvements to the Technical Lead.

3. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Certificate, Diploma or equivalent qualification in Electrical Installation, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology or a related field.
  • Possession of a valid electrical installation worker’s permit/license applicable to the work undertaken, as required by Ugandan regulations.
  • At least 3 years’ practical experience in electrical installation, preferably including domestic or rural electrification work.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising electricians, wiremen or other technical field teams.
  • Practical experience in electrical wiring, testing, fault diagnosis, quality control and commissioning.
  • Knowledge of applicable Ugandan electrical installation standards, safety requirements and utility procedures.
  • Experience using mobile applications for field reporting or data collection is an added advantage.
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, planning and teamwork skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work extensively in rural communities and challenging field environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with Ugandan local utility companies.

4. KEY OUTPUTS

  • Well-Coordinated Technical Teams: Technicians are effectively deployed, supervised and productive.
  • Quality Installations: Completed wiring meets Street Wireman standards and applicable electrical requirements with minimal defects and rework.
  • Safe Field Operations: Electrical installations are undertaken using appropriate safety procedures, PPE and risk controls.
  • Tested & Commissioned Jobs: Completed installations are properly tested, verified and ready for safe customer use.
  • Efficient Material Use: Materials and tools are properly utilized, controlled and accounted for with minimal wastage.
  • Accurate Job Records: Work progress, testing, materials, defects and completion information are accurately captured in the Wireman App.
  • Satisfied Customers: Customers receive professional service, appropriate technical guidance and proper handover of completed installations.
  • Competent Technicians: Wiremen continuously improve their technical skills, workmanship, productivity and safety practices.
  • Technical Feedback: Field challenges, lessons and improvement opportunities are documented and communicated to the Technical Lead.
  • Pilot Learning: Reliable field information is generated to help Street Wireman refine its technical model, costs, standards and processes for eventual scale-up.
